Charter schools are public, nonsectarian schools created through a business-like contract or “charter” between the charter governance board and the sponsoring school board or other chartering authority.
What is an online course?
An online course is a course that is offered through the internet.
Is Kiel eSchool a Virtual Charter School?
Yes, Kiel eSchool is a Virtual Charter School so non-district students are allowed to apply to the Kiel eSchool. A virtual charter school is a specific form of online learning. It is the only form of online learning which allows an open enrolled pupil to participate remotely, that is, without having to physically attend school in the nonresident school district during all the days and hours that school is in session.
When can I enroll?
A student may enroll anytime. Kiel eSchool is a year round school.
Is there a "real" teacher and what is their role?
Yes, all our courses are taught by DPI certified instructors. Our teachers will connect with their students through email, phone calls and virtual meetings. They will assess assignments and give feedback to help the student to continue to grow.
What is the Kiel eSchool Grading Scale?
A = 95-100
A- = 93-94
B+ = 91-92
B = 87-90
B- = 85-86
C+ = 83-84
C = 79-82
C- = 77-78
D+ = 75-76
D = 72-74
D- = 70-71
F = 0-69
How do I see my final grade?
The final grade will be placed on the student’s transcript at their local school.
Can full-time students participate in school events (athletics, clubs, etc)
Yes, full time students can participate in all the same events as a regular face-to-face student.
I am a homeschool student in the Kiel Area School District. Can I take an online course?
Yes, you can take up to two online courses to keep your homeschool status. If you wish to take more than two, please contact our office to discuss enrolling into Kiel eSchool full time.
I am a private school student in the Kiel Area School District. Can I take an online course?
Yes, you can take up to two online courses.
When can I apply for full time open enrollment?
Open Enrollment takes place in spring:

I missed the open enrollment period. Can I still apply to attend your school?
Yes, you are still able to apply. You will need to fill out the Alternative Open Enrollment Application.
